1.2436 is a high-carbon, high-chromium cold work tool steel known for its excellent wear resistance, good toughness, and high hardness. It belongs to the group of chromium alloyed steels and is widely used in the manufacturing industry for producing cutting and punching tools, blanking and forming dies, and other cold work applications.

Heat Treatment:
Annealing: Heat uniformly at 820-850°C (1508-1562°F), hold for sufficient time, then slowly cool in the furnace to below 600°C (1112°F) for complete annealing.
Quenching: Preheat slowly to the austenitizing temperature of 980-1010°C (1796-1850°F), then quench rapidly in oil or air to achieve full hardness.
Tempering: Immediately after quenching, temper at 180-220°C (356-428°F) for 2 hours, followed by air cooling to obtain the desired combination of hardness and toughness.
