For exemplary welding of AISI SAE C1020 steel, it is crucial to follow these recommended preheat and interpass temperatures to secure lasting joint integrity and strength.
For steel thicknesses ≤50mm (2 in.), maintain a preheat and interpass temperature above -12°C for low hydrogen applications, and 38°C for other welding types, ensuring optimal weld quality.
For thicknesses ranging between 50mm and 100mm, the preferred preheat and interpass temperature is 93°C for low hydrogen applications, and 150°C for other welding processes, ensuring a strong, durable weld.
Postweld heat treatment is optional, but when selected, it is recommended to maintain a temperature range of 590-675°C (1100-1250°F) to significantly enhance the material properties and weld quality.
