Introduction:
AISI 4130 alloy steel, recognized under the prestigious ASTM A29 standard, is a medium carbon, low alloy steel. Additionally, ASTM 4140 steel, often known as chromoly or chrome moly steel, boasts a superb composition.
This alloy includes approximately 0.28-0.33% Carbon, 0.8-1.1% Chromium, and 0.15-0.25% Molybdenum. Its close resemblance to 4140 steel, which has higher carbon content, imparts 4130 with enhanced weldability,
albeit at the cost of reduced through-thickness strength. However, with precise heat treatment, 4130 steel is amenable to machinability.
Annealing ASTM 4130 alloy steel ensures exceptional ductility. Typically, AISI 4130 steel is available as round bar, often provided in a hardened and tempered condition.
AISI/SAE 4130 steel, a versatile alloy, is lauded for its good atmospheric corrosion resistance and notable strength up to around 315º C (600º F).
This alloy exhibits a well-balanced mix of strength, toughness, and fatigue resistance.

Forging of 4130 Alloy Steel
To forge ASTM A29 Grade 4130 steel,
between 1230 and 950 º C (2250 and 1750 º F).
The more finely finished the forging temperature, the finer the grain size of the steel. However, if the 4130 alloy steel is forged at temperatures that are too low, there is a risk of developing non-uniform structures,in certain sections of the forged part, necessitating a normalizing treatment before further heat treatment.Huangshi Smooth Industry and Trade Co., Ltd is proud to leverage this exceptional material in our Hot Rolled Rod Steel Bar, ensuring superior performance and reliability.
