9CRWMN steel is a typical alloy Tool steel. 9CRWMN steel with high abrasion resistance, micro
deformation of cold work die steel, the wind hard tool steel, carbon content as high as 0.95%, the
heat treatment hardness can reach 64 HRC. 9CRWMN section steel can be used to manufacture
of small cross-section, and the complex shape of Die, as well as various measuring tools.
Commonly used in stamping die, stamping die, bending die, drawing die, punch punch and
finishing molds Mould.

Forging of 9CRWMN steel material
 
Preheat slowly to 700°C then increase the temperature more rapidly to 980-1000 °C. Do not forge
below 800°C. Then cool the 9CRWMN slowly in furnace after forging.


Annealing of 9CRWMN steel material
GB 9CRWMN tool steel is delivered condition normal at annealing and machineable. If need re-annealing.
Heat the 9CRWMN steel and Soak thoroughly to 740-760°C, then cool in furnace. After annealing,
the 9CRWMN delivery hardness is 255HB Max.


Stress Relieving of 9CRWMN steel material
 
When must tools made from 9CRWMN alloy tool steel are heavily machined or ground , the relief
of internal strains is advisable before hardening to minimise the possibility of distortion. Stress
relieving is very necessary, stress relieving should be done after rough machining. To stress relieve,
heat the component carefully to 670-700°C, allow a good soaking period (two hours per 25mm of
ruling section). Cool in the furnace or in air. The tools may then be finish machined before hardening.


Hardening of 9CRWMN steel material
 

GB 9CRWMN Delivery condition usually is Annealing, so hardening is necessary. Heat the 9CRWMN
tools in a controlled atmosphere furnace, if have not the controlled furnace, pack hardening is
recommended strongly.  Pre-heat 9CRWMN tool steel to 300~500°C, soak enough time until
heat through. Then brought up to 780-820 °C, Quenching in oil quenching.


Tempering of 9CRWMN steel material
 
Heat the GB 9CRWMN to 100-400°C, Heat uniformly to the required temperature allowing a
soaking time of two hours per 25mm of ruling section. Withdraw from the furnace and allow
to cool in air.  Different tempering temperature will get different hardness. Commonly used /

tempering temperature: 180 ~ 180

After tempering hardness HRC | 100 ºC : 64
After tempering hardness HRC | 200 ºC : 62
After tempering hardness HRC | 300 ºC : 57
After tempering hardness HRC | 400 ºC : 53
